Looking Back | 2018

This was a pretty big year for our family. Some big-time changes and a big addition to our family! There was some tough stuff of course, but overall 2018 was a really great year for our little family. I love writing these posts as they make me look back on each month and the big things that happened!

So many blessings! Here is a look back at our 2018!

| January 2018 |

| I entered the third trimester in my pregnancy with Ivy (then known only as Baby Cashew).

| I also learned I had gestational diabetes which I took pretty hard. I was admittedly a bit of a drama queen about it the first few weeks, but after I learned the ropes it was fine.

| We had just sold our first house and moved into the parsonage. So I spend most of the month of January setting up our new house.

| We moved Nora to a big girl bed and she acted like there was no change! She did amazing!

| Generally a pretty calm month simply soaking in our time with Nora before she had to share us.

| February 2018 |

| Nora turned 2 and we had a fiesta to celebrate! Two has been one of my favorite ages and this month is when it all began!

| I found out that I most likely wasn’t going to have an April baby like we originally thought. So we kicked it into high gear preparing for Smith baby #2.

| Collin turned 28, and like always his celebration was minimal compared to his birthday month partner’s. Sorry babe!

| At the end of the month the weather was amazing, so I took Nora to the park as much as I could. I knew a newborn was on the way so I wanted to make the most of our easy days together.

| I got back into blogging quite a bit after a long lull.

| March 2018 |

|In all honesty, the end of March was rough for me. I was incredibly uncomfortable at the end of my pregnancy and just ready for the baby to come.

| Even in my discomfort and impatience, I wanted to spend so much time soaking in my last moments with just Nora Kate.

| March was the month of Ivy Corinne. She came on March 26th and added so much love to our family. Gosh I love that little girl!

| April 2018 |

| Little Ivy got to celebrate her first holiday just six days after her birth. We attended Easter at our little church, and would later regret it…

| On the day Ivy turned three weeks old she was struggling to breathe that night (after a few days of congestion and a cough). We rushed her to the hospital and found out that she had RSV. We spent 8 days in the hospital with her. 8 of the hardest days of our lives.

| After Ivy recovered it was almost as if she’d never been sick. Praise the LORD she went quickly back to being a happy healthy baby. The rest of the month was spent really getting to know our new member and learning our family’s new normal.

| May 2018 |

| We celebrated Mother’s Day and the many May birthdays on my side of the family.

| We spent a lot of time outside as we had amazing weather!

| Ivy started smiling. Arguably one of the best baby developments!

| May was spent just soaking in those sweet newborn days and time with my gals.

| At the end of the month Collin and I celebrated six years of marriage! I really am a lucky gal!

| June 2018 |

| We spent many Saturdays at our local Farmer’s Market. It’s one of our favorite things to do in the summer.

| Lots of play dates with some good friends of ours.

| June seems to be full of church events and Collin was extra busy. The end of the month was Nora’s first time going to VBS and it was probably the highlight of her year.

| Ivy was not the easiest this month. She has such a big personality which often translated to fussy and particular. She didn’t like sleeping much and it was difficult for me. This caused a whole lot of growth in me as a mom though and I look back and am thankful for this season.

| July 2018 |

| We celebrated the 4th with a “quiet” night at home. We never do much for this holiday, but it’s nice to enjoy a full day with the family in the summer!

| My bestie came to visit and meet Ivy for the first time! Nora and I worked together to make scones and cinnamon rolls for her!

|It got pretty darn hot in July as it always does in Missouri. But we still spent as much time outside as we could! I love summer!

| Ivy turned four months old and really started to get more fun. I think four months is a turning point from those newborn days.

| August 2018 |

| At the beginning of the month, Collin and I went on an anniversary/my birthday trip to Nashville. We went to a Dave Barnes stand up/concert show, which was incredible. It was Ivy’s first overnight away from us and she learned to quickly take a bottle (which she had refused to do prior). I learned to pump in a car… It was so nice to get away with my favorite guy, gosh I love him!

| August marked my second year staying home and not getting ready to go back to school. It is always a little bittersweet but August was such a good month I didn’t miss teaching for but a second.

| Mid-month we began potty training Nora and it started off great. I didn’t know that four months later we would still feel like we were in the “training” phase though.

|Spent a ton of time outside with my girls and lots of mornings drinking coffee while they played. August was a great month!

| September 2018 |

| I celebrated turning 28 on the first of the month. Collin teases me because I can never remember how old I am!

| Our town does a big carnival celebration at the beginning of September, and our church has a very popular food booth. Lots of work on Collin’s end and I volunteered for a shift as well. Nora got to go on her first carnival ride and talked about it for weeks after!

|The girls and I went on lots of walks as the weather was amazing for most of September. We discovered how much Ivy loves swinging so we made lots of park trips! We always had to stop at the church and smell the beautiful flowers!

| Ivy turned 6 months old and I really think that was our biggest turning point. She started scooting, sitting up, and could do so much more. It made her a much happier and more content baby!

| October 2018 |

|We visited the pumpkin patch with Collin’s family on an unusually freezing day. We had so much fun though and got some great pictures and apple cider donuts!

| Fall was absolutely gorgeous this year! Like so much more beautiful than it typically is in Missouri, which is saying a lot! The girls and I began going on daily morning walks and collecting our favorite leaves. Such a special time!

|We celebrated Halloween and took the girls to our churches Trunk or Treat. It was a huge success for the church, but Nora did not last long after seeing a scary costume.

| This October also marked Collin’s 1 year anniversary officially working at the church! It was a year of lots of learning and growth, but we feel this is right where God wants us!

|Collin and I got a sweet surprise at church with a prayer from our congregation on Sunday to celebrate the year of Collin’s installment service. We are so blessed by our little church family.

| We had family pictures taken and they were a highlight for sure!

|We decorated our house for Christmas, I am not the type to wait until after Thanksgiving.

| We celebrated Thanksgiving with Collin’s family in Illinois. We loved kicking off Ivy’s first holiday season.

|We had three Christmas celebrations this year and the first one was early in the month! So much fun to do holidays with kids!

| I got real crafty and did a ton of little projects around our house!

|We went to Kansas before Christmas and had a great time celebrating with my family. I am so blessed with amazing family on both sides!

| We had an amazing Christmas Eve service at our church! I was able to sing with a five-piece band and it was so fun!

| Nora got her hair chopped off and I am in love with it!
