Forming New Habits


This whole blog “relaunch” (as I’ve been calling it) was spurred on by a large amount of inspiration being thrust right into my face one beautiful fall week. I love fall and I’m not ashamed of how basic that is! The gorgeous weather, the smells, and the colors just make me a better person somehow.

I know it sounds crazy, but I always set goals and become more creative and productive in the fall season. What happens to some people in the new year happens to me in the fall. However, just like with new years resolutions I tend to lose my steam after about a month. I was determined to change that this fall though!

Research shows that it takes 21 days to form a new habit. So if you want to begin regularly doing something new in your day, just stick to it for 21 days and you will have made it a habit. I have also heard that you are only suppose to pick one new habit at a time. Adding too many new things or anything that is too “complicated” will take longer than the 21 days to become habits.

So I decided in this season of being my best self there were a few things I wanted to become habits in my daily life. I chose three things I wanted to focus on and introduced one a month. So each day of that month I focused on doing one new thing. Then the next month I kept doing the first thing and introduced one more.

|One| September

Drink 30oz of water each day.

I’m not great at drinking water, and while I know I should be drinking 64 ounces daily. Thirty is really a big improvement for me. I’m proud to say I did really well with this! I noticed that I am so much more conscious about how much water I am drinking each day.


|Two| October

Take vitamins daily

I never take vitamins except my prenatals when I am pregnant. I have been hearing a lot about the benefits of daily vitamins over time. So I wanted to find some to take each day for specific purposes. I found Olly vitamins that taste like fruit snacks and also made this a daily habit! I take them after breakfast each morning. It’s almost like a little treat!

|Three| November

Take care of my skin.

My skin took a real hit after Ivy was born and I started to see that I needed to do a better job taking care of it. I shower daily and wash my face then, but I don’t have a nighttime skin care routine. Still in the early phases of this and I will share more later!


This method of introducing one new routine a month seriously made all the difference. Since I am a visual person I made a chart for each month and would check off the item or items as I accomplished them! I am still working on my current habit, but am confident I will be able to share a good report on it too!

    I just started using the Olly vitamins as well I use the flawless completion and Women’s multi ones. I’ve never taken vitamins before either, but so far I like these! Love reading the blog! Miss you, friend!
